Steve Slagle’s All Stars @ Barnstock Holiday Party!

Barnstock is thrilled to announce the return of Steve Slagle on Friday, December 23 @ 7pm for the holiday show!
This all star lineup will feature:

STEVE SLAGLE

Saxophonist, flutist and composer Steve Slagle makes his home in New York City. He has released 20 CD’s as a leader, and performed on countless others. His many original compositions are published by Slagle Music, BMI worldwide. Steve was musical director of the Mingus Big Band for many years, and wrote many of the bands arrangements as well with Joe Lovano’s Nonet, of which he is a member. He has received two Grammy Awards for recordings with each of those groups and continues his association with them. As a leader, Steve concentrates on new sounds and new compositions as a performer, bandleader and recording artist.
He has played with Stevie Wonder, Machito’s Afro-Cuban Orchestra, Steve Kuhn, Lionel Hampton, Jack McDuff, Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra, Brazil’s Milton Nascimento and band, Carla Bley Orchestra, Ray Barretto, Beastie Boys, and many others.
DAVID GILMORE

has recorded and performed with many of today’s most influential modern artists. He has worked with Wayne Shorter (appearing on Mr. Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album, High Life (Verve)), Dave Douglas, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Uri Caine, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn, Ron Blake, Carolyn Leonhart and Christian McBride, among many others.
In addition to his significance presence on the international touring scene, Gilmore has also appeared on over 50 recordings, including two of his own as leader. His first CD, Ritualism (2001) received international critical praise and was nominated for the 2001 Debut CD of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association.
JAY ANDERSON

Bassist/composer Jay Anderson is among the most versatile and respected jazz artists performing today. He has performed/recorded with a wide range of jazz artists including Woody Herman, Carmen McRae, Michael Brecker, Paul Bley, Bob Mintzer, John Abercrombie, Dave Liebman, Joe Sample, Maria Schneider, Stanley Cowell, John Scofield, Lee Konitz, Vic Juris, Red Rodney, Ira Sullivan, Mike Stern, Anat Cohen, Toots Thielemans, Kenny Wheeler, Jay Clayton and non-jazz artists like Oswaldo Golijov, Dawn Upshaw, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, Robert Spano (Atlanta Symphony), Michael Franks, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Terre Roche, Chaka Khan, Michel Legrand, Allen Ginsberg, and Celine Dion. He has been featured on over 400 recordings, seven of which have received the Grammy Award. His original recordings “NEXT EXIT” (DMP), “LOCAL COLOR” (DMP), and “DEEPSCAPE” (Steeplechase) have received critical acclaim both in the U.S. and abroad. Jay has conducted clinics around the world and is a Professor of Jazz Bass Studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and New Jersey City University.
MATT GARRITY

Drummer Matt has been on the New York City music scene since 1994. He has performed with some of the best in the business, including Grammy winners, Joe Lovano, Vincent Herring, and Steve Slagle as well as David Williams, Teri Thornton, Peter Bernstein, David Amram, Eric Alexander, Gary Versace, Ron McLure, Ed Cherry, Ben Monder, Ratzo Harris, Joel Forrester, Jeremy Pelt, and Jerome Richardson, among others.
Since 2017, Garrity has been producing BARNSTOCK, a jazz series featuring recording and live streaming from his studio in Woodstock, NY. The space is set in the top floor of a renovated 1911 barn. It’s a warm, intimate setting for hearing some of the best musicians on the scene. The new outdoor stage under the towering pine trees has added a whole new magical element to this series. Past artists include Ed Cherry, Peter Bernstein and Joe Lovano.
**The Concert**
BARNSTOCK is a monthly jazz series in Woodstock, NY. Run by drummer Matt Garrity, the space is set in the top floor studio of of a renovated 1911 barn. It’s warm, intimate setting makes for the perfect listening room. Come hear some of the best musicians on the scene in the hippest house concert you’ll ever go to, including Grammy winning artists!
